If you ask your doctor if there is a link between the causes of your acne and your food, you will most probably be told that there is no direct evidence of any such link. The source of their information is a now largely discredited study from 40 years ago and the pharmaceutical companies and food industries that funded that study. Why then do they continue to deny the ancient wisdom "you are what you eat", which has been known from the 16th Century and probably from earlier times?

The medical profession places great reliance on the information provided by the pharmaceutical companies. As commercial organizations, those companies know there is more profit to be made in selling a treatment for your acne than in promoting a healthy balanced diet. The food companies are keen to avoid any suggestion that their products could be harmful. Between them, the ancient wisdom continues to be denied.

The truth is that conventional medications will never cure your acne, because they are not designed to treat the internal cause of acne. Instead, they are designed to deal with the external symptoms your condition.

Recent scientific studies have confirmed the anecdotal evidence from countless acne sufferers over many years that their condition got worse soon after consuming certain foods. Conversely, they saw a dramatic positive change their acne when they eliminated the same foods from their diet and when certain foods with specific nutritional values were incorporated into their diet.

The wrong diet is now thought to be one of the leading factors that negatively affect hormonal regulation and the natural process of toxin elimination that can lead to acne or inflame an existing condition.

Foods to avoid

Recent studies have shown a clear connection between the consumption of refined carbohydrates, such as white sugar, white flour, white rice, and the inflammation of your condition.

When you consume any form of refined carbohydrates it very quickly raises your blood sugar levels. Your body tries to reduce those levels by releasing a surge of insulin and other male hormones. The excess of male hormones encourages your skin to excrete more sebum. Dead skin cells mixed with the sebum block your pores creating ideal conditions for the acne bacteria to multiply, resulting in a breakout of your condition.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that milk and dairy products can also inflame your acne. Eight out of 10 dairy cows that are giving milk are pregnant. They are constantly releasing hormones designed for baby cows into their milk. One such hormone, progesterone breaks down into androgens, which have been implicated as a factor in the development of acne. Cutting dairy products out of your diet will result in a marked improvement in your condition.

You should also avoid vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils as these, too, are known to inflame acne.

The good new is that there are plenty of other foods that are not only excellent for your skin; they can actually help you clear up your acne, by re-balancing your body and promoting an acne-free environment. You can get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs from having a healthy diet that is rich in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and that also includes nuts.

When your doctor proclaims that there is no direct link between your diet and your acne they are missing the point that the link to the external symptoms of your condition is indirect. The main causes of your acne are internal. What you eat affects what goes on inside your body for good or for ill.

There is a however, a close connection between diet and the formation of your acne. What you eat can trigger your acne as well as inflaming an existing condition. Avoiding foods such as milk and dairy products, refined carbohydrates and hydrogenated oils, and eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables, including green leafy vegetables and nuts will help your body to heal itself from the inside out and will dramatically reduce your acne.
