The common skin problem, pimple, had affected over 80% of the American teenage population. Some of these teenagers also carry this pimple problem into their adulthood.
What causes the outbreak of pimple is relatively unclear but many dermatologists believe pimple could be stemmed from many sources. The most common understanding is that over secretion of the sebaceous glands triggered most pimple outbreaks.
What is pimple? Pimple is a skin disorder due to the suppressed immune function. As the skin is also an excretory organ which allows your body to secrete harmful substances, the suppressed immune function is believed to cause this pimple problem.
Teenagers are worst hit by this pimple problem. During puberty, the hormone increases and causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge and overactive which in turn, and produce sebum.
Another common cause of pimple outbreaks is when the liver is not functioning as it is supposed to be. When this happens, the liver could not clear the excess hormones which can aggravate the outbreaks of pimple. Do note that it is important to have a balance of hormones and the optimal cleansing function of the liver.
What are sebaceous glands? These microscopic sebaceous glands are in the middle of our skins which naturally, are to secrete sebum, which is an oily matter, in the hair follicles to lubricate the skin. Sebaceous glands are found more abundantly on the face and scalp.
When these secretions are blocked and could not break out onto the surface of the skin, pimple generally developed. These sebum are trapped and bunched up, causing inflammation just beneath the lining of the skin.
Pimple is not an bacterial infection but the bacterium, commonly known as P. pimples, naturally found on the surfaces of our skin. This P. pimples help to keep our skin from free from harmful bacteria.
But during this inflammation of the clogged sebum, these P. pimples will grow in these blocked pores. These P. pimples will then produces a type of chemicals which will change the composition of the clogged sebum, which worsen the inflammation and at the same time, irritated the skin.
In fact, inflammation occurs when the body's immune system could not get rid of any foreign substance, which, in this case are the sebum.
Many teenagers are very concerned about their complexion which literally "changed overnight". Most will try those over-the-counter pimple treatment products as these are their first encounter with this pimple problem.
Not all cases of pimple can be solved with these over-the-counter pimple treatment products. Most of these over-the-counter pimple treatment products had active ingredients which could be rather harsh to their skins, resulting in redness, peeling and the severe drying of the skin.
